Quality of Readings (ColorQuest 45/0 LAV)

If your ColorQuest is drifting or is not reading accurately, perform the steps below to attempt to diagnose and/or correct the problem.

  1. Clean the standard tiles as described here.

  2. Replace the lamp.  If you are using a DP-9000, go here for instructions.  If you are using a computer and software package, go here for instructions.

  3. Verify that the instrument is placed in a clean, climate-controlled environment with no drafts.  Verify that the instrument is on a dedicated power line and is surge protected.

  4. Clean the lens using photographic-quality lens solution and lens paper.  Put a few drops of solution on the lens paper and gently wipe the lens in a circular motion for a few seconds.  Then wipe the lens with a dry lens paper to remove streaks and any hazy film.

  5. Verify that the fan in the power supply or DP-9000 is rotating and is free of lint and dirt.  Blow it out with air.  Ensure that the fan assembly has at least 6 inches of clearance to allow proper air flow.

If readings are still unsatisfactory after following these instructions, instrument service may be required.

Information about how the DP-9000 carries out the averaging operation can be found here.  You may want to read this information if you have concerns about "rounding error" in averaged measurements or if the values for the individual measurements do not seem to yield the averaged values.
