Exceeding expectations of human eye | HunterLab's Mission
Our Mission
Our ceaseless mission is to exceed the expectations of the human eye through precise and accurate measurement of color & appearance.
Imagine…
you’re looking up at a sunny, cloudless sky as someone else far away looks up at the same sky. Are both of you looking up at the same shade of blue? What if you’re looking up at different times of day but from the same location? How does that shade of blue change? What does “blue” really mean?
Our eyes can be happy, surprised, sad, fearful, disgusted and sometimes angry. Eyes respond to external stimuli immediately and naturally. With so much subjectivity and variation, imagine the challenge of measuring what our eyes can see. For over 66 years, HunterLab has been singularly focused on conquering the impossible every day by measuring both what the eye can and cannot see.
Our ceaseless mission is to exceed the expectations of the human eye through precise and accurate measurement of color & appearance.
Passion for Truth
When we are born, we do not know green from red. We learn this through teaching and experience. More importantly, we do not know how to quantify the difference between two different reds, and our eyes cannot see all colors equally well. Each of us sees the world through different eyes. Imagine how difficult this becomes to quantify color and appearance. Our eyes struggle to quantify how hazy a liquid or plastic is, or how glossy or shiny a paint is, or how transparent a car windshield might be.
The work we do today is driven by the roots our founder planted over seventy years ago. Richard Hunter invented this technology to push color science as far as possible. We continue to push the envelope on spectrophotometry to measure color and appearance at higher degrees of accuracy, always striving to reach and augment the human eye. We will not say we are the best at color measurement on the planet (but we are). Not only did our founder invented the L, a, b system, but we also paved the way toward true color measurement by inventing easy-to-use measurement technology. We strive for the truth, which is why seeing is believing when it comes to our measurements.
Seeing & Making the Difference
HunterLab started and continues today as pioneers in color measurement. As quality requirements are increasing, we are continuing to advance our technology to be better than industry requirements.
From advancements in health research, food processing, and beverage production to improvements in building materials, chemicals, and clothing, HunterLab has been helping businesses of all types ensure that the appearance of their products is measured with precision and consistency. Beyond the obvious applications of our technology to chemicals, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, plastics, paints, coatings, We are working with our customers to find new ways to use our technology every day.
Across the globe we are the partners for quality with companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Roche, Amgen, DSM, Dow, Dupont, PepsiCo, CocaCola, Exxon, Bayer Material Science, 3M, Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Unilever, Essilor, P&G, Valspar, Bimbo Bakeries, Levi’s, Sinopec, and Nestle, just to name a few.
We are a 100% employee-owned company…
which means the people who are responsible for bringing this powerful technology to you are also the owners of the company, so you can be sure that quality and passion goes into all of our solutions.
Our customers are continuing to fascinate us with how they use our innovations. From advancements in health research, food processing, and beverage production to improvements in building materials, chemicals, and clothing, HunterLab is helping businesses of all types ensure that the appearance of their products is measured with precision and consistency.
SEE the future…
Going forward, we are committed to enhancing our solutions to make the world a better place. Using SMART technology, we are helping customers reduce waste through recycling applications, helping reduce the environmental impacts of plastics. We are working to improve traffic with fluorescence control to help in the manufacture of safety fabrics and retro reflectivity for traffic safety. We are actively expanding measurement beyond what the eye can see and simultaneously developing image analysis applications. When it comes to our work, the applications are endless.
We help the world by measuring the color and appearance that breathes life into all of us.
That’s the future we See!
We've worked with thousands of companies, but you'll feel like our one and only.
