UltraScan VIS Spectrophotometer

UltraScan VIS is a visible-range high-performance color measurement spectrophotometer that measures the full range of human color perception. It can be used in production and in the laboratory for inspecting raw materials, evaluating finished product or developing methods for color analysis.

  • The CIE Range Color Measurement Spectrophotometer


    A host of measurement features and specialized sample-handling devices make UltraScan VIS a highly versatile color measurement spectrophotometer. Because of its exceptional inter-instrument agreement and long-term stability, you can be confident that differences between measurements are due to product color changes, not instrument variability. Materials on the borderline of accepted tolerances will not be unnecessarily rejected.


    The UltraScan VIS easily measures both reflected and transmitted color as well as transmission haze and meets CIE, ASTM and USP guidelines for accurate color measurement. UltraScan VIS uses diffuse/8° geometry with automated specular component inclusion/exclusion. For transmission measurement, the use of a robust CIE-conforming sphere instrument (TTRAN Total Transmission mode) effectively negates the effects of minor scattering typically found in transparent samples.


    The optical system has an effective bandwidth of 10 nm and spectral data is reported every 10 nm. Tristimulus color calculations are performed from 360 nm to 780 nm as recommended by the CIE. UltraScan VIS includes EasyMatch QC software.

    Adjustable Transmission Preform Holder

    Semi-Micro Powder Holder


    Permits the reflected color measurement of as little as 0.4cc of packed powder. Powder is placed in the powder holder and is backed with the white plunger.

    Round, Capped Cell


    A round, screw capped, optically clear transmission cell with10mm path length and 4.0ml volume. Cell includes both a solid propylene cap and inject-a-cell cap. For use with above Holder for Round Capped Cell.

    Flow Through Cell Holder

    Provides a cell holder that is mounted in the transmission compartment for supporting a flow cell. Cell purchased separately.

    Semi-Micro Cell Holder and Optical Assembly


    Enables the use of 10mm and 20mm path length standard or semi-micro analytical cells for color transmission measurement of small volumes of clear liquids. Glass or plastic cells are pur- chased separately by the customer. Approximate sample volumes required when using semi-micro cells are 0.4ml for 10mm path length and 0.8ml for 20mm path length.

    The thick walled cells (having 4mm internal width) are available from NSG Precision Cells, Inc. and Starna Cells. Disposable cuvets with 4mm internal width are available from Fisher Scientific.

    Transmission Clamp


    Holds transparent film, glass or plastic in position for total or regular transmission measurement.
